The orchard is being managed sustainably using organic principles.
Mount Hyde Hazelnuts Limited is a family business that manages a mature hazelnut orchard near Outram, in the foothills of the eastern hills surrounding the Taieri plain which is located southwest of Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand.
We look after 3,000 hazelnut trees with initial plantings made in 2001. We use no herbicides or pesticides.
We grow 4 varieties of hazelnuts but the majority are Whiteheart. They are excellent for roasting as their pelicles (skins) flake off during the roasting process and have a great flavour and a satisfying crunch.
